Dr Sanjeev V Mulekar

Dr Sanjeev V Mulekar completed his MBBS and MD (Dermatology) degrees at Topiwala National Medical College, Mumbai, India from 1973 to 1984.

He worked at a private practice in Mumbai as a general dermatologist from 1985 to 1996 until he was trained in cultured and non-cultured melanocyte transplantation at Uppsala University, Sweden. Because early results were promising, he decided to focus his work on Vitiligo and other hypo-pigmented diseases.

In India, Dr Mulekar is regarded as the pioneer in non-cultured melanocyte transplantation, the latest development in the surgical management of Vitiligo.

In 2003, he was invited to join the National Centre for Vitiligo in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He continues to work at this centre.

In 2008, Dr Mulekar was invited to join the Multicultural Dermatology Department, Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI, USA, to establish a surgical unit to treat Vitiligo and non-Vitiligo Leukoderma. His work involved setting up the treatment facility and training staff to perform non-cultured Melanocyte Keratinocyte Transplantation (MKTP). He continues to be a visiting dermatologist at Henry Ford Hospital USA and is involved in their research programmes.

Dr Mulekar is also available at Wimpole Aesthetic Centre, London, UK, where he offers consultation and treatment for suitable Vitiligo patients.

Dr Mulekar has been treating Vitiligo patients with this surgical technique since 1996 and has till date performed over 4,000 procedures in India, Saudi Arabia, UK and USA. He is actively involved in research and has had more than 25 Publications published in peer reviewed international journals. In addition to being a reviewer for reputed international journals, Dr Mulekar has been invited to lecture and perform workshops in international conferences. He has trained dermatologists and surgeons in India, USA, Brazil, Uzbekistan, and Bangladesh to perform this treatment.

Dr Mulekar is a member of the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) and Indian Medical Association (IMA). He is registered with the Indian Medical Council, Saudi Medical Council, and General Medical Council, UK. He has an Institutional License to work at the Dermatology Department, Henry Ford Health System.
